Grassroots Development

Our grassroots soccer program for kids in K-1st grade runs during the spring and fall seasons, providing an excellent introduction to the sport. Each season includes about 7 weekly practices and weekend games. We emphasize the spirit and love for the roots of the game to ensure kids fall in love with soccer. Each team consists of two dedicated coaches. For those who wish to attend additional practices, we offer player development sessions, or they can choose to have personalized sessions with one of our coaches/trainers on scheduled day/time that works. We play in the SFYS Vikings local grassroots league.

Recreational Development

Our recreational soccer program for kids in 2nd to 8th grade runs during the spring and fall seasons, with a futsal program available in the winter. Practices are held once a week for 2nd graders and twice a week for 3rd graders and up, with games on weekends. Each season includes about 10-20 practices and 8-10 games (depending on age/team). We emphasize the spirit and love for the roots of the game to ensure kids fall in love with soccer. Each team has a designated coach, and those who wish to attend additional practices can join our player development sessions or opt for personalized sessions with one of our coaches/trainers. Individuals who excel also have the chance to guest play with competitive teams of the same age on a weekly basis upon review by the Director of Coaching (DOC) and the coach of the particular team. We play in the SFYS local league.

Competitive Development

Our competitive soccer program for kids in 3rd to 8th grade runs during the spring and fall seasons, with a futsal program in the winter and team tournaments in the spring. Practices are held twice a week, with a game on the weekend. Players are expected to do a day of conditioning outside of practices and are highly encouraged to attend player development sessions. Each regular spring/fall season includes about 15-25 practices and 8-10 games, plus tournament games based on qualifications. We emphasize the spirit and love for the roots of the game, ensuring kids play with love, excitement, and self-expression. Each team has a designated coach. We play in the SFYS Competitive local league and aim to add Cal North travel ball in 2025 for our competitive teams.

More Programs

  • Our youth goalkeeper program is led by Coach Edwin Garcia, the current goalkeeper for Farolito U23 and City College of SF. We encourage all goalies in our program to get to know Edwin on a personal level and reach out to him. This connection helps us create a firm training schedule to ensure consistent progress and development for each young goalkeeper.

  • Beach Soccer runs from the second week of July and ends the first week in August, with the San Francisco Beach Classic the first weekend of August. Pro-Am will sponsor the tournament and our teams will train twice a week with one of our coaches to prepare our team for the tournament. There are three huge components that you apply in Beach Soccer that you organically do when playing it: Running in High HeelsLifting (“The new Juggling”), and Shooting. Please read this article from Pro-Am for a detailed outline of how it helps our players, especially those who are new to this form of the beautiful game.

  • C.A.P. plays in the Jose Coronado Indoor Soccer League (provided by SF Parks & Rec) here in San Francisco, every winter. Beginning Sunday, January 7th, at SFRPD recreation centers across the city, boys, girls, and co-ed teams, from 5U – 18U, in Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced Divisions, will compete 5-on-5 (including a goalie) . We form teams based on responses and it is first come first serve to get into the SF program!

Futsal originated in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America. In 1930 (Uruguay won the first World Cup that year), Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition in YMCAs. The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls. Futsal is one of the easiest ways to play soccer on the street. There are many cement pitches, as common as basketball courts are here in the States.

We will organize teams by appropriate age and skill level and the notion of practice will be technically based with emphasis on the most important facet - playing the game! The pace and repetition of the game, with the constant additive of an opponent trying to take the ball away, will allow players to quickly develop technique and improve decision-making and ball control.
